Flight 1218 Non-Stop from Ft. Lauderdale to Washington D.C.

Is this real life? Numerous thoughts are racing through my head...is this a mistake?...I should just cancel this stupid thing...I'm going to miss Brooke!...I should have chosen the 8-week program instead of the 10-week! But there I was, sitting in seat 15A (window seat; score!) on my way to the Nations Capital.

Excuse the picture quality (old iPhone)

Many people have asked, "What will you actually be doing?". Funny thing is, I have absolutely NO clue! But if you are wondering, I will tell you just as I told them. I am working at the Heart of America Foundation. It is a non-profit, that benefits elementary schools by rebuilding their libraries, we provide books and teach the children how to read and show them that people do care out there. I stole this from the pamphlet, "We give the gift of knowledge". So what will I be doing? Probably sitting in a closet, inputing numbers into an excel spreadsheet, and calling other libraries begging for books, and companies pleading for money! Oh joy.

All joking aside, I am excited for what I have in-store. D.C. is going to teach me so much, and hopefully give me some sort of direction in where I am going with my life, as long as it is not the political route!

I am staying at the American University (AU) Tenley Campus, which is all a nice brisk walk to the Tenleytown-AU metro stop. I get on the Red Line and follow it all the way up to Judiciary Square, where the Heart of America, you will see me reference HOA a lot, is just steps from the metro stop.

This is where I am living, my room is on the second floor, all the way to the right with the cool four windows. My roommate is an intern, I have no idea who he is, where he is interning, or when he is even coming for that matter...I am assuming one day I will just show up and he will be here, and as long as he is not eating my fruit snacks, it's fine by me.

A little nicer than the dorms at UNF, eh?
I just got back from exploring a little bit of Tenleytown. I saw that gas was $4.45 a gallon. I went into a few different markets including a Whole Foods which is minutes from me (couldn't be happier) and I noticed that they charge .05 cents per bag that they have to provide you with. And if you provide your own bag, then they give you .05 cents. I found that pretty interesting and would like to see that come about in FL! The streets were remarkably green and just about every house was a brick home; wether it was freshly painted red, white, or an older darker brick, it was all picturesque. Families were playing in the front-yard, adults were jogging, picnics were happening...I liked where I was and it all seemed as if it was out of a movie.

Well I have to go meet some girls...who is going to end up doing my laundry after-all? :P Just kidding....
